Judges Registration
Information for Potential and Past ACTE Technology Competition Judges
Applies to South Central Region and State Competitions
Thank you for your desire to participate in the ACTE Technology Competition as a judge. The procedure for registration of judges in as follows:
- Follow the link on the webpage for the competition that you want to judge. (when the registration sites are open there will be links on this page)
- Fill out the form on the site, be sure to include all contact information and fill out all questions.
- You should receive an e-mail a week before the competition thanking you for volunteering and telling you more specifics about the events.
- Show up the day of the event to the designated room for a briefing and then enjoy yourself as you judge technology projects from some of the brightest minds in Alabama public and private schools!
Each region may follow different procedures, if you are wanting to judge in a region different from the South Central, please go to this page and follow the link for your region.
In January the registration site for the South Central Regional will open. You must register on the site so that you are assigned projects to judge. It is important that if you register and later can't attend that you contact me, Dr. Tom Lucy-Bouler, as soon as possible. One week before the competition projects are assigned to judges, so after that a cancellation is cumbersome to reassign those projects to a new judges. I understand about last minute emergencies, but please don't let the students down if you say you are going to judge! The students work on these projects starting in the fall and are very proud of their work.
In March the registration site for the State Competition will open. You must register on the site to be a judge at the state competition. The registration site that is open in January is only for the South Central Region, not the other regional competitions in the state.
Judges are needed for all categories, all levels. Team programming judges are required to be at the team programming competition the night before the main competition usually from about 7:30 to 10 pm. This year, 2007, the South Central Region will hold the team programming during the day of the competition, February 23th, from 11 to 1 pm. Those judging will be needed from 1 pm to 2 pm for judging. Judges for the competition on the main day are required to be at the competition no later than 8:15. Again, this applies to the South Central Regional and the State Competition only. Other regions have their own times for the judges to show up.
Below is a table of the categories and examples of projects/software/skill level for each category by each level. The categories that are most technical and require judges with experience in the field are video production and the programming categories (team programming and computer programming).
